Sumiuchi is making his fourth Championship start in 2026. He finished T-5 in the Asia-Pacific Amateur in 2022 in Thailand and 2024 in Japan. Earlier this year, he finished T-3 in the Kanto Amateur Championship in Japan. In 2025, he finished runner-up in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational and T-9 in the Western Intercollegiate where he represented Nihon University against NCAA Division I American universities including Stanford, Oregon, Arizona and Michigan State.
